Advanced Applique-with Bernina Embroidery Software
love is mini quilt

So you've done some applique with your Artista software and the Auto- Applique tool. Now learn to use the Advanced Applique tool and Multi- Hooping features of the Artista v5 software as you digitize this adorable wall-hanging from Nancy Halvorsen's "Love Is" book. In the first two sessions, you'll digitize the images into appliques and then split them into multiple hoopings. In the third session you'll begin to stitch out your design. You'll love the features that the Advanced Applique tool offers, and you'll be amazed at how easy it is to split large designs into multiple hoopings.

You'll never look at applique the same way again!

This is an intermediate level software class. If you are not comfortable with basic
digitizing, you should take Software Digitizing FIRST on Monday, January 28 or
Software in a Day on Monday, February 11.

Supply List

• Book - “Love Is” by Nancy Halvorsen (required—available at The Presser Foot)
• Button Pack from Just Another Button Company (optional—see sample, tiny heart button on small dog’s collar and nose button on large dog)
• Two 7/8” buttons for tabs (book recommends Theresa’s Hand Dyed Buttons from Hillcreek Designs)
• Basic sewing supplies: pins (I recommend fine, glass head pins), scissors, machine needles (I recommend Schmetz or Organ quilting needles and embroidery needles), bobbins, water-soluble marking pen (blue, not purple), whatever other tools you need to sew and embroider
• 1/4” piecing foot—if you have a Bernina, the #37 or #57 foot is great
•Walking foot and darning/embroidery foot for quilting—if you have a Bernina, the #9, #24, #26 or whatever darning foot that might have come with your machine is fine. (If your feed dogs do not drop, be sure to bring your feed dog cover.)
• Thread to match your fabric for applique and for quilting
• See book for fabric and batting requirements

• Laptop with Artista v5 Software installed (please note that your computer MUST be in good working order, we will NOT have time to troubleshoot computer problems in class. If you need to borrow one of our laptops, please let us know when you register and pay for class as we have a limited number available. You will still need to bring
YOUR DONGLE and some kind of portable storage device such as a USB stick to save your files on so that you can work on them at home.) You MUST have v5 Designer Plus because other versions do not have the Advanced Applique tool. Bring your laptop to the first and second classes—you may also need it for the third class, depending on which sewing machine you have.
• Sewing Machine (please make sure your machine is in good working order, we will NOT troubleshoot sewing machine problems in class) You do not need to bring your sewing machine to the first class or second class.
• Embroidery Unit (you will not need your embroidery unit for the first or second class)
• Stabilizer (for this project, I recommend OESD’s Ultra Clean and Tear which is a medium weight tear away)
• Freezer paper cut into 8 1/2 x 11 sheets
• The largest hoop you have for your embroidery unit (if you have a Bernina, the Mega-hoop is best for this project, but the large hoop is fine—sorry, no Hoop-it-all for this class—this class isn’t designed for that one!)

REMEMBER THAT YOU GET A 15% DISCOUNT AT THE PRESSER FOOT WHEN YOU PURCHASE
SUPPLIES FOR A CLASS YOU ARE TAKING FROM US. IF THERE IS SOMETHING YOU NEED BUT WE
DON’T HAVE IN STOCK, PLEASE ASK—WE CAN PROBABLY ORDER IT FOR YOU!
