Love is Quilting Bag
Love is Quilting bag

Learn the basics of the Auto-Applique tool in the Artista Software in this two session class. In the first session, you'll digitize images for the Love Is Quilting bag from Nancy Halvorsen's "Love Is" book into applique designs that you can sew out with your embroidery unit.
In the second session, you'll sew out the designs and begin to put the bag together. You'll love this fast, easy way to applique with your embroidery unit!

This is an intermediate level software class. If you are not comfortable with basic
digitizing, you should take Software Digitizing FIRST on Monday, January 28.

Supply List

• Book - “Love Is” by Nancy Halvorsen (required—available at The Presser Foot)
• Button Pack from Just Another Button Company (optional—see sample, front of bag, 3 tiny heart buttons that dot the i’s—also available at The Presser Foot)
• One 1 1/8” button (for bag closure—book recommends “mistletoe green” from Theresa’s Hand Dyed Buttons, from Hillcreek Designs)
• Basic sewing supplies: pins (I recommend fine, glass head pins AND flat, flower head pins for this project for pinning through many layers of thick material), scissors, machine needles (I recommend Schmetz or Organ quilting needles and embroidery needles), bobbins, water-soluble marking pen (blue, not purple), whatever other tools you need to sew and embroider
• 1/4” piecing foot—if you have a Bernina, the #37 or #57 foot is great
•Walking foot and darning/embroidery foot for quilting your bag—if you have a Bernina, the #9, #24, #26 or whatever darning foot that might have come with your machine is fine. (If your feed dogs do not drop, be sure to bring your feed dog cover.)
• Thread to match your fabric for applique and for quilting
• See book for fabric, batting and interfacing requirements

• Laptop with Artista v4 or v5 Designer Plus Software installed (please note that your computer MUST be in good working order, we will NOT have time to troubleshoot computer problems in class. If you need to borrow one of our laptops, please let us know when you register and pay for class as we have a limited number available.
You will still need to bring YOUR DONGLE and some kind of portable storage device such as a USB stick to save your files on so that you can work on them at home.) Bring your laptop to the first class—you may also need it for the second and third classes, depending on which sewing machine you have.
• Sewing Machine (please make sure your machine is in good working order, we will NOT troubleshoot sewing machine problems in class) You do not need to bring your sewing machine to the first class.
• Embroidery Unit (you will not need your embroidery unit for the first class)
• Stabilizer (for this project, I recommend OESD’s Ultra Clean and Tear which is a medium weight tear away)
• Fusible web (I recommend Steam-a-Seam or Misty-Fuse)
• June Tailor Fray Block (optional—since this is a bag that might be washed someday, the edges of your applique will eventually fray a bit if you don’t use Fray Block.)
• Freezer paper cut into 8 1/2 x 11 sheets
• The largest hoop you have for your embroidery unit (if you have a Bernina, the Mega-hoop is easiest but the large hoop will also work)

REMEMBER THAT YOU GET A 15% DISCOUNT AT THE PRESSER FOOT WHEN YOU PURCHASE
SUPPLIES FOR A CLASS YOU ARE TAKING FROM US. IF THERE IS SOMETHING YOU NEED BUT WE
DON’T HAVE IN STOCK, PLEASE ASK—WE CAN PROBABLY ORDER IT FOR YOU!
