Sewing, Quilting and Embroidery Classes for Everyone

Our staff teaches sewing, quilting and embroidery classes featuring a wide variety of projects for different skill levels. We've even got sewing classes for kids! These classes are open to owners of any brand of sewing or embroidery machine—all you have to know are the basic functions of your machine and how it works. Please read our Class Policies and other general information before you enroll in your class!

Machine Quilting

For adults with little or no sewing
experience. Start your sewing journey
the right way—you'll being with a
project appropriate for your skill
level and become a confident sewist,
working on projects at your own pace.

Use our classroom machines if you
wish—kits are available for
some projects.
 
Learn the art of machine
embroidery applique, using a variety of
tools and techniques including the
CutWork tool, BSR and more.

You'll create monthly blocks with
seasonal / holiday themes that can be
separate wall-hangings or one
large quilt. This stash-busting project
is one that you will enjoy for years to
come!
 
In this two-session class, you will
learn machine quilting techniques
as you free-motion and straight line
quilt your Skillbuilder practice panel.
Melody will share her quilting
expertise and advice about adjusting
your machine's tension (both top
and bobbincase), and how to choose the
right thread and needles for your project.
You will leave with the confidence to
practice more quilting on your own
at home.

There is a $35 kit fee (required) for this
class which includes a Skillbuilder
practice panel for your "quilt top",
as well as several samples of thread
and machine needles for quilting.

A different bag project each month to
teach you construction techniques and
show you different materials!

February's Bag of the Month is
a Ruler Keeper. In this two session class
you will make your own version of
this clever hanging storage sleeve
that will accommodate a 12", 9" and
6" square plus rulers that are 24"
and 18" long. Made of sturdy duck
canvas, linen or denim, your ruler keeper
will protect and organize your rulers for
a long time to come. You'll also learn
how to use a bias-tape maker in
this class.

Create this soft and fun
storage bowl or bucket from
Aunties Two. The sides are sewn
flat in a rectangle, then attached
to create this storage container
that's both beautiful and useful!
Embellish yours with decorative
buttons or other elements.
 
This modern, detailed table runner
only LOOKS complicated to piece!
You'll learn to use the Stripology
ruler from Creative Grids to cut
your pieces, and then you'll learn how
partial seam piecing works to give
these blocks a "twist"!

This fun, simple table runner is the
perfect project for you to begin your
quilting journey!

You'll learn rotary cutting basics,
1/4" piecing, pressing and straight
line quilting techniques in
this class.
 



Applique is "snow" much fun
with the Accuquilt die cutting machine
and some bright, happy winter
fabrics! In this class you'll
use your Accuquilt die cutting machine
to cut the shapes perfectly for
your wall-hanging. Learn basic
machine applique techniques to
stitch your shapes to your background
fabric, and you've got a project
that will make you smile everytime
you see it!

Please bring your own Accuquilt die
cutting machine—you can borrow
our dies for this project during the class.

This class will teach you how to use
the free-arm feature of your
embroidery machine to embroider on
a baby onesie. You'll learn about the
right kinds of stabilizers for these
little garments, as well as tricks for
design placement. You will be able to
apply your new skills to other "ready
to embroider" or "ready to wear" items
that can be challenging to hoop.
 
 
 
No, we're not looking for extraterrestrials—
we're just trying to finish our Unfinished
Fabric Objects. Here's your chance to
carve some time into your calendar
to complete your own projects! Whether
you have things to complete from
a class you've taken or that you've
just "been meaning to get to", join us and
take advantage of our staff's expertise
and advice—we've got the help you
need to get it done! Lunch is potluck—
bring something to share if you want
to join in on lunch.

modern quilt from Jaybird Quilts

This quilt is fast to cut out and easy
to piece—it's a great way to use up
two layer cakes (for the lap size) that
you've been saving, or add some
solid colors to one layer cake!

You'll learn tips and pressing techniques
to make all your points match
perfectly when you put the rows
together, and you'll also learn how to
create and attach bias binding.
This fun, simple table runner is the
perfect project for you to begin your
quilting journey!
