About Our Classes

The Presser Foot has several classes to offer you. When you purchase  your BERNINA from us, there are several Owner's Classes that are complimentary for as long as you own your machine—you may take them as many times as you like. We also offer garment sewing classes, quilting classes, bag construction classes, special events and much more—these classes are for everyone, no matter which brand of sewing machine you own.

We respectfully ask that you call to enroll in any classes we offer at least one day prior to class to be sure we will have a kit and an instructor for you, and if you need to cancel or reschedule please call and let us know. We are unable to offer online enrollment for classes—you MUST call the store to register.

Please read our class policies below before you register for class. When

you enroll in your class, you agree to follow our class policies.

We want classes to be fun and stress free for everyone! Please read the following class policies before registering for your class.

Class fees do not includes supplies unless specifically stated. You are responsible for downloading and reading the supply list before enrolling in class. Some Owner's Classes do have a small kit fee (that is required) for the class so that everyone has the same materials to create the project. Because we want to keep instruction available for everyone and make sure our instructors are compensated for their time and effort in creating a valuable class experience for you, we try to keep our class fees both reasonable and comparable to other quilt stores and sewing machine stores in our area. Sometimes surprises are nice and sometimes they're not. We don't want you to be surprised by materials that are required for class. There is a class supply list for some classes, located in the full class description—just click the link and download or print the supply list. If you cannot download or print the supply list, let us know and we are happy to either email it to you or print it for you at the store. Sometimes we will find a better or different product than what the pattern or book calls for—if that's the case, we want to share that with you, so please stick to the supply list as stated and assume that what is listed is required (unless specifically stated as optional). If you have questions about the supply list, we're here to help you—please ask us before class day! We offer a discount on class supplies for the class you are taking at our stores—just make sure you let us know that you are enrolled in class when you purchase your supplies and we will apply the discount.

Some classes have pre-requisites or skill level requirements—we're pretty serious about those! We note any skill level requirements or classes you must take before hand in our full class descriptions. For example, if we ask that students have basic rotary cutting skills or to be familiar with how to thread your sewing machine, it's not because we don't want to teach you to do those things—it's because the project you will be making in the time allowed for the class requires that you already have those skills. Please choose your classes accordingly! Thank you for respecting our requirements—it impacts EVERYONE'S class experience.

If we cancel the class or event, you will receive a refund for the class or we will enroll you in the next session. In the extremely unlikely event that we have to cancel the class or event you are registered for due to weather, illness or other circumstances beyond our control, don't worry—we'll make it right.

If you are unable to make it to the class or event you are enrolled in, we cannot guarantee you a refund. Because we have a maximum number of students allowed for each class or event (which varies), we may have already filled the class and denied someone else the opportunity to enroll. If we have a waiting list and we can fill your space, we will either enroll you in a future session or issue you a refund—this may be in the form of store credit. Please understand that if we cannot fill your space, or the class is a multi-session class which has already begun, we cannot refund your class fee. Our policy for events is the same—if we can't fill your space or if the event listing specifies no cancellations, we cannot refund your fee due to the expense of bringing instructors to our store and of the supplies for some events. Thank you for understanding.

Some classes have prep work required before class day. We note any prep work you must complete before class day on the supply list. If we ask for your email or phone number when you register for class, the instructor may contact you before class day to make sure you are able to complete the prep work required. Whether or not you are able to complete your project in class may depend on whether you complete the prep work, so please make sure you read the supply list or ask us if you need any assistance.

Please be on time for class and silence your cell phone during class. In fact, you can even come ten or fifteen minutes early to set up your machine and get your supplies ready! Everything goes much more smoothly if everyone is on time—not only can we get to the fun part faster, it also saves our instructors from having to repeat anything you may miss if you are late. (We do not call you before the class to remind you that you are enrolled—you are responsible for making it to class when you are registered, and no refund will be issued if you do not remember to come to class. See above policy about refunds.) Just like when you're in an important meeting, it can be disruptive to have a ringing (or singing!) phone during class. We understand that sometimes you absolutely NEED to keep your phone on—we just ask that you put it on vibrate or lower the ring tone volume to a minimum, and take any urgent calls outside of the classroom so that the other students may continue to hear the instructor. If your phone rings during class please do not continue to let it ring—answer it or silence it.

Please call and register BEFORE class day, and please call and let us know if you need to cancel your enrollment. Some classes and clubs require us to prepare kits ahead of time, and if we don't know you're joining us, we may not have enough kits. The instructor who is teaching the class may not necessarily be working in the store the rest of that day—if you are not registered for class, there might not be an instructor when you get here. Likewise, if you are the only one registered for a class and we have an instructor coming in to teach you, we appreciate you letting us know if you need to cancel so that the instructor doesn't come in and have no one to teach. Some classes also have a minimum enrollment number or the class will be cancelled (this does NOT apply to the Owner's Classes—we will teach those even for one person). If the minimum number is not registered yet when YOU enroll, we will tell you so that you are aware the class may either be postponed or cancelled in the unlikely event that it does not "fill". If that happens, we will either refund your class fee or enroll you in a different session—your choice.

Please do not bring guests who have not paid the class fee, unsupervised children or pets to class (exception—service animals). Thank you for your understanding. Please inform us when you register if you have a service animal so that we can do an exceptional job of making sure there are no pins on the classroom floor ahead of time!

Please tell us of any assistance you require when you register for class. We have two classroom areas in our store, one of which is upstairs (and it is a FULL, straight flight of stairs with no landing). We do have a dumb waiter / tiny elevator to send your machine and class supplies up the stairs, but it is not a full size / person size elevator. We are very happy to accommodate you and assist you any way that we can—just please let us know in advance if you will require assistance. We will schedule classes in our main floor class area if necessary, and we are happy to help you bring your sewing machine and / or supplies into the store when you arrive if you let us know.
