Sewing, Quilting and Embroidery Classes for Everyone

Our staff teaches sewing, quilting and embroidery classes featuring a wide variety of projects for different skill levels. We've even got sewing classes for kids! Most of our classes are open to owners of any brand of sewing or embroidery machine (unless specifically stated in the class description)—all you have to know are the basic functions of your machine and how it works. Please read our Class Policies before you enroll for your class.

Below is a preview of what's coming up at The Presser Foot. Please click the link in the class listing to view the entire class description on the calendar page and to see the link to the supply list. Class fee does not include supplies unless specifically stated. Please review and download the supply list before you register for the class.

Please enroll for your class by calling the store at least two days  prior to class day so that our instructors can have enough kits, handouts or other class materials for you. There may be some preparation work required before class day—if this is the case it will be noted on the class supply list, so please be sure you enroll in class enough in advance that you can complete the prep work!

We add new classes frequently. Don't see what you want? Get a couple of your friends together and ask us about creating a class just for you! Knit Pants Fit Masterclass

Friday, March 8, 2024             from 10am to 4pm                                                  Class Fee: $79
                                                                                                                                           Instructor: Kari Kechter

This in-person, hands-on class will teach you to measure, cut and construct a pair of knit pants that fit YOU!   Please note that there is pre-class prep work required.

Sewing pants can often feel as baffling as solving a complex math problem. Join Certified Silhouette Pattern Fitting Instructor Kari Kechter for an immersive one-day workshop where you'll master the art of creating timeless and custom-fit knit pants, using Silhouette Patterns Three-Piece Yoga Pant pattern #3400. You'll achieve a perfect fit that complements your body's contours, and Kari will walk you through the steps, ensuring that your pants will be custom fitted just for you. Once your pattern is perfectly adjusted, you'll proceed to cut and sew your very own pair of knit pants in class.

Prior to class you'll receive comprehensive instructions to baste together a trial / test garment—these test pants will be created with extra wide seam allowances. During the class you will try on your test pants inside out, and under Kari's guidance you will custom fit your pants. Following the fitting session, you'll make necessary adjustments to your test garment by basting in the changes made during the fitting and draping session, and then you'll try on the garment one more time to ensure the final fit. With your pattern perfected and tailored to your unique body, you'll proceed to cut and sew your pants in class. By the end of class you will leave with a pair of expertly crafted, custom fitted pants that you can proudly wear.

Pattern fee and class materials are NOT included in the class fee. Pattern must be purchased directly from Silhouettes prior to class day.  Advance registration is required and this class will fill quickly—call and register today!

This monthly class is in-person—advance registration is required. Videos available online each month for your reference later.

A beautiful teal quilt is the new Block of the Month class from Wilmington!

Join Teresa for this fun intermediate level class each month starting in July! Create your own stunning Teal-ing Good quilt using the kit and follow along with Teresa each month as you build it block by block over the next ten months. Finished quilt is 98" x 102"—kit includes fabric for quilt top.

You may use the Accuquilt die cutting system and the 6" and 12" QUBE dies to cut your pieces for this quilt (not required for class--you may use traditional rotary cutting methods if you prefer, or you can share our die cutter and dies in the hands on class each month). You will need to bring your own 6" or 12" cutting mat if you plan to use our die cutter--we cannot supply cutting mats for classroom use, sorry. If you have questions about using the Accuquilt for this class, please ask us!

Videos will be posted each month showing step by step instructions for that month's block(s) or section(s), and you'll have access to those videos on this website in the Members section through September of 2024.

Project materials are not included in class fee. Kit is REQUIRED as fabric colors, cuts and placement are integral to the design. Please visit the full class listing and description on the
Class Calendar page for monthly class dates. Class starts Wednesday, July 26 and then will be held on the fourth Wednesday of the month for the next nine months.
